2) Can I get my prescriptions filled at a pharmacy other than the Scott & White Pharmacies listed above?
Yes, you may have your prescriptions filled at any pharmacy that is listed in the Scott & White provider network. However, you will be limited to a maximum 30-day supply on maintenance medications.

3) Can I get a 90-day supply of my medication at any pharmacy?
You can only obtain a 90-day supply of medication on approved maintenance medications and only at the Scott & White Pharmacies listed below:

4) Can I fax in a new prescription to the pharmacy?
No. According to Pharmacy State Board laws, only the prescribing doctor's office may fax a prescription to a pharmacy.

6) How do I transfer a prescription to another pharmacy?
Call the pharmacy that will be receiving the transferred prescription. Provide them with all of the pertinent information. They will call the pharmacy that previously filled the prescription and obtain the information necessary to fill it. Please remember that prescription transfers can only be completed while the originating pharmacy is open for business.

7) Do the Scott & White Pharmacies accept credit cards?
Yes. We accept Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express.

Refilling Information

1) How do I order prescription refills?
You may either call the pharmacy at the number listed below or order through the web site. When ordering a refill, please notify the pharmacy staff if your doctor has changed. Be sure to specify the pharmacy where you would like to pick up your prescription when ordering through the web site. Some of the pharmacies listed below also have an automated answering system that allows you to order your prescriptions 24 hours a day.

2) How soon can I order my refills?
At least 75% of your previous fill on maintenance medications must be used before ordering a refill. See the examples below to help you determine when to order:

3) Does the pharmacy automatically call my doctor when I use my last refill?
No. You need to call the pharmacy and the pharmacy will then contact your doctor for refill authorization. The status of your prescription is printed on the bottom left corner of your prescription label in the light green shaded line. Please note when your prescription is "not refillable" and call in your refill request to the pharmacy earlier than normal so the pharmacy can obtain the necessary refill authorization from your doctor. Please allow 48 to 72 hours for your prescription to be filled when there are no refills remaining as your doctor will need time to review your medical history.

4) How do I know if I have refills remaining on my prescription?
Look on the bottom left corner on the prescription label of your last refill. This area should be highlighted in a light green shade if the prescription was filled at a Scott & White pharmacy. It will either say "No Refill" or give a number of refills remaining until a date. For example, if it says you have " 2 refills until 05/25/2003"; it means that you may refill your prescription 2 more times before May 25, 2003. If you still have refills remaining but the date has passed, your prescription is not refillable and will require authorization from your doctor before the pharmacy can refill it. Please keep in mind that most doctors’ offices are only open Monday through Friday and the pharmacy may not be able to obtain a refill authorization on the weekend.

5) How much extra time should I allow if my doctor must be contacted for a refill authorization?
Please allow an additional 48 to 72 hours for your doctor to review your medical history.

6) What carrier does Scott & White use to ship medications?
The Scott & White South Loop-Express Pharmacy ships most medications by U.S. Mail, first class and does not charge extra for the postage. Some medications will be shipped only by certified mail. Medications can be shipped via Fed Ex, but will only be done at the patients’ request and the patient must prepay all shipping costs.

7) How much time should I allow for prescriptions shipped to me by mail?
The South Loop–Express Pharmacy will ship prescriptions at no extra cost through the U.S. Mail. Please allow 5 to 7 working days from the date that the pharmacy receives your request for refillable prescriptions. Prescriptions requiring authorization from your doctor will take an additional 2 to 3 days.
Note: mail is only picked up at this pharmacy on Monday through Friday.

Formulary Information

1) What is a prescription drug formulary?
A prescription drug formulary is a comprehensive list of prescription drugs deemed to be safe and effective with acceptable or superior financial value. For those members with the prescription drug rider, the Health Plan will only provide full payment coverage for those drugs included in the formulary or preferred within a given category.

2) How is a formulary developed?
The Scott & White Health Plan formulary was developed through the efforts of the Pharmacy Department in coordination with the medical directors, with input from various staff members. The first criteria for inclusion are always safety and effectiveness and the second is overall cost of the drug therapy. It is officially sanctioned and approved through the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee of the Scott & White Health Plan.
