Scott & White Health Plan: How the Legacy Began

An essential component of the Scott & White integrated delivery system, Scott & White Health Plan began operation in January of 1982 as a not-for profit Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). It began as a novel idea to combine the well-respected Scott & White institution with a practical, efficient system of pre-paid health care.

First called the Centroplex Health Plan, its service area focused primarily in the Bell and Coryell counties. Scott & White Health Plan eventually evolved into a vast health care network covering a far wider area encompassing thirty-four counties in the Central Texas Region. In the quest for excellence the institution has undergone many changes in the past two decades, but the Health Plan's original mission has not changed - to provide personalized, comprehensive, high-quality health care, enhanced by medical education and research.

In the last 20 years, Scott & White Health Plan has introduced the new insurance plans to meet the needs of members, employers and community, including a child only plan, a statewide self-insured plan and Medicare prescription plan. Scott & White Health Plan has received numerous awards for its financial strength and quality of service.
