Shannon Medical Plaza Expansion

Shannon Medical Plaza Expansion Begins

Medical Plaza ConstructionShannon Medical Center in San Angelo, TX, formally marked the start of its Medical Plaza building expansion. The building will undergo a 34,000 square feet expansion over the next year. The expansion is the largest construction project on Shannon's downtown campus since building the Women's and Children's Center in 1994.

"As Shannon continues to grow, our goal is to maintain first-rate facilities, technology and providers for our patients," said Bryan Horner, President and CEO of Shannon Medical Center. "We are very excited about the Medical Plaza expansion as it creates additional space for physicians, and it will give us the opportunity to consolidate services into comprehensive centers for our patients."

The project plans include the creation of specialty centers for patients. They will consolidate the Shannon Regional Heart Center and all cardiology services on the third floor. The second floor will house the neurosurgery and neurology services. Oncology and outpatient chemotherapy services will be on the first floor adjacent to the Regional Cancer Treatment Center.

The expanded oncology center will feature new patient waiting and treatment rooms with spa-like ambiance. The new outpatient chemotherapy area will utilize the latest technology. Every chemo station will have its own TV and DVD player. The area will also increase from 12 to 18 chairs, which will allow the center to serve more patients each day. The center will include a counseling room, space for support groups, and increased educational resources. Shannon Medical Center recently held a special beam-raising ceremony. Shannon physicians, board members, staff and friends who attended the beam-raising ceremony were given the opportunity to sign a steel beam which will become a permanent, historical piece of the building framework.
