Dr. Buyse Named Chief Medical Director

Scott & White Health Plan names Chief Medical Director

Dr. BuyseMarylou Buyse, M.D., M.S. has been named Chief Medical Director of the Scott & White Health Plan (SWHP).  Dr. Buyse was a key participant in the state of Massachusetts' health care reform efforts.

"Dr. Buyse has a rich and diverse background that will serve the Scott & White Health Plan, our community, and its members well as we continue to grow and adapt to health care reform efforts at the national level," said Allan Einboden, Chief Executive Officer of the SWHP.

Dr. Buyse is board certified in pediatrics and medical genetics. She has served as president of the Massachusetts Medical Society, medical director of United Healthcare of New England, and Urgent Care Coordinator of the Harvard Community Health Plan.  For the last nine years, she was president and CEO of the Massachusetts Association of Health Plans. She played a major role in the implementation of health reform in that state.

Dr. Buyse was instrumental in promoting transparency in terms of cost and quality.  She also worked closely with the physician community to make administrative simplification a top priority for the various Health Plans she served.

In her position at the Scott & White Health Plan, Dr. Buyse will oversee the quality of care among SWHP participating medical providers. She will also oversee the credentialing of doctors and championing of patient safety efforts. 

"Dr. Buyse, along with our medical directors, will form the nucleus of a leadership team that will keep the Scott & White Health Plan among the most-respected and highly-rated health plans in our industry," said Allan Einboden.

Dr. Buyse has practiced medicine for 30 years. She holds a master of science in Preventive Health and Administrative Medicine from the University of Wisconsin.  She received her medical degree from the Medical College of Philadelphia. She completed her residency at the LAC-USC Medical Center, in Los Angeles.  Dr. Buyse and her husband relocated to Central Texas in mid-December.
