The Scott & White Alcohol and Drug Dependence Treatment Program (ADDTP) is designed to help chemically dependent people learn how to stop their destructive behavior. We want to help them stop their use of alcohol and other drugs. We will also help them make the life changes necessary to eliminate dependence on these substances. Our goal is to help people learn how to enjoy life without the use of alcohol or other drugs. Alcoholism and other drug addictions have profoundly harmful affects on all areas in a person's life. Treatment at the Scott & White ADDTP addresses the entire person, not only the chemical dependence. The aim of treatment is to help chemically dependent individuals and their families learn how to break the destructive cycle of addiction and replace it with healthy living.
Outpatient Care: The Evening Treatment Program
The five-week ADDTP Outpatient Evening Program is located in the Scott & White Mental Health Center in Temple. The Outpatient Evening Program provides treatment after working hours. It meets four evenings each week, Monday evening through Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. The Evening Treatment Program allows participants to continue to work during the day. They may attend group therapy, individual therapy, and educational sessions in the evenings. Family members are invited to participate in an educational program every Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. This will help them better understand the nature of addiction and their roles in the process of recovery.
Outpatient Care: The Medicare/Senior Care Treatment Program
This January, Scott & White created the ADDTP Outpatient Medicare/Senior Care Program, aimed at those 65 and older, an age group that is more and more facing the challenges of addiction.
"As our aging population continues to grow, the elderly are often prime candidates for alcohol and prescription drug abuse, intentional or not," said Craig Franke, M.D., Scott & White psychiatrist. "Unfortunately, this population is frequently unrecognized until the disease of addiction has progressed."
The six-week program is offered in the Scott & White Mental Health Center in Temple. The Outpatient Medicare/Senior Care Program provides treatment in sessions that occur three times a week, Monday Tuesday, and Thursday, from 9 a.m. to noon. It consists of group therapy, individual therapy and educational sessions.
Outpatient Care: Continuing Care
The weekly Continuing Care group therapy sessions provide guidance and support during all stages of recovery. It helps participants maintain a clean and sober, satisfying lifestyle for the long term. This group meets every Tuesday evening from 6 to 7: l5 p.m. It is designed for 2 years of follow up.
The Scott & White ADDTP staff members are skilled in the treatment of chemical dependence and other mental health problems. In addition, Scott & White's medical services and psychiatric services are available if needed.
